About

1921

I am twenty years old and right now and I am starting something brand new today. My friends in Kansas and I are working to accomplish a very special project. Under my direction, my staff and I are producing a series of cartoons named “Laugh-O-Grams” which is very entertaining for audiences. Right now I am trying to persuade Frank Newman, Kansas City’s leading exhibitor to include this animation in the series of weekly newsreel Newman produced for his chain of three theaters. My goal with these cartoons is to mix advertising with topical humor and I am very excited about it. I hope they become a hit, and if they do I have different ideas. For example animated fairy tales may be a very good idea because it is very innovative. The New York animator Paul Terry’s spoofs of Aesop’s Fables, which had premiered in June 1920, influenced me. I decided to create the character “Little Red Riding Hood” featuring a wolf. I hope it becomes successful so that I can create more characters and please other people.
